- ➤ Communities First, Inc. hosted a philanthropy panel discussion on Mar. 4 in Bay City to share ideas on community giving + plan future support projects. ABC12

- ➤ Al Thieme, founder and inventor of Amigo Mobility, died on Tuesday, Mar. 3 after a short battle with cancer (he was surrounded by family) as his pioneering work transformed accessible mobility in the community. WNEM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bay City Fireworks Festival will celebrate America's 250th independence from July 1 to 4 with live music and fireworks along the east Saginaw River. John F. Kennedy Drive will close for the event — local businesses are launching challenge fundraisers for festival president Earl Bovia. ABC12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Seventeen high school students will compete in the Poetry Out Loud Finals at CMU in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, March 14, reciting poetry for a $1,000 cash award and a chance to advance to nationals for a $20,000 college scholarship. MLive
- ➤ Margie Dziurka (63) is pursuing her nursing degree at Davenport University’s Midland campus. After decades of caregiving for her family, she returned to school and is on track to graduate in May 2027. MLive
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Financial Plus Credit Union will open five new branches later this year. The new locations are on State Street in Saginaw, the Center Avenue corridor in Bay City, and in Holly, White Lake and Hartland to better serve local members. ABC12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MBS International Airport is operating as normal despite TSA workers working without pay due to a partial government shutdown that began Feb. 14 — Airport Director Canders advises travelers to check with airlines for any potential delays. ABC12
- ➤ The state will distribute nearly $94 million to 313 local government entities and tribes during the 2025 fiscal year under the Marijuana Regulation Fund. Eligible areas will get $54,017.10 for each licensed marijuana retail store and microbusiness — including Bay County — to support education and road repairs. WNEM
- ➤ Local leaders, elected officials and developers met at the Midland Center for the Arts on March 4 to discuss expanding housing across Arenac, Bay, Clare, Midland and Saginaw counties. They outlined the need to increase home production from 647 to nearly 7,783 homes annually. WNEM
