  • Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland hosted its 17th annual Hot Shot Media Archery Contest for Charity on Friday, Feb. 6, where local media professionals competed to win cash prizes for their chosen charities. Daniel Balzer with Family Life Radio won the $2,000 grand prize for Youth Haven Ranch.  MLive
  • The Good Samaritan Rescue Mission opened its new overnight drop-in center on Jan. 14 at 713 Ninth Street to offer warmth, showers, meals, and a safe space during winter. It has already served over 55 people by hosting guests from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.  ABC12

  • Nick Shelton, a fourth-generation family member, has been appointed president to oversee The Mill at Zehnder Park—a new luxury boutique hotel inspired by local milling history—located at 701 Mill St. in Frankenmuth that will open in late spring 2026, with a summer grand opening planned and job postings forthcoming.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local Girl Scouts will sell cookies Feb. 20-22 to learn customer interaction and money management (earnings remain in the community). Scouts will sell cookies at grocery stores, door-to-door, and online to build real-world business skills.  WNEM

FINANCE NEWS

  • In 2025, Bay County residents spent over $5.2 million per 10,000 people on lottery games, ranking the county 14th in Michigan. Total sales reached about $53.7 million & contributed to public education funding.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill passed the State House that would allow deer baiting in the lower peninsula for the first time since 2018. The bill now moves to the State Senate -- local hunters and wildlife experts express mixed views while warning that bait piles may spread disease.  WNEM
  • Saginaw County ranked ninth in per-resident lottery sales in Michigan with nearly $112 million sold in 2025, spending about $5.96 million per 10,000 residents & topping nearby Bay and Genesee counties.  MLive
  • Attorney General Dana Nessel warned Michigan residents today about potential online gambling scams ahead of the Super Bowl and urged them to use licensed platforms, set limits, and check account restrictions to protect their finances.  WNEM
