- ➤ Hoyt Library will host a free lecture on Feb. 5, 6:30 p.m., examining the 1967 Saginaw uprising and factors like redlining that contributed to racial tensions. Dr. Jennifer Vannette of the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History will lead this Black History Month event — registration is required. MLive
- ➤ Artist Lark Allen III opens his exhibition (Memes of African American Postmodernism) today at Studio 23, where he will speak at 5-7 p.m. during a free reception; the exhibit runs through Feb. 21 and features African-inspired masks and mixed-media pieces. MLive

- ➤ Matthew Schmidt, the longtime superintendent of Bangor Township Schools, announced his retirement effective June 30 (after 30 years in public education) and will support a smooth leadership transition. MLive
- ➤ Earlier this month, Bay City Public Schools approved contracts to demolish the former Dorland Administrative Building at 910 Walnut; Mead and Son’s Contracting will handle demolition for $124,300 while Quality Environmental, Inc. manages a $457,000 abatement contract (bids closed on Nov. 20, 2025). - ➤ Doctors in mid-Michigan report a sharp rise in pediatric flu cases, with a 40% increase in hospitalizations compared to last year. Parents are urged to protect their children with the flu shot & to seek care if kids develop persistent fevers or breathing trouble. WNEM

- ➤ City commissioners approved a $2 million plan to transform 500 Salzburg into a mixed-use development (office space, rental hall, and 14 rental apartment units) that qualifies for tax incentives. Construction will begin as early as May and finish about a year later. MLive
- ➤ Murphy Oil USA reviewed the former Rite Aid site on Wilder Road for a $3 million fuel center and convenience store project. The plan discussed at the Bay City Planning Commission meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. calls for demolishing the old store to build a new 2,824 sqft filling station. MLive
